Current Clinical Focus Dr. Ana Cragnolino specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of individuals
with learning disorders, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and
other neuropsychological impairments, as well as the psychological problems
associated with these difficulties (including mood and anxiety disorders).
She combines her interest in psychotherapy with her training in neuropsychology
and psychological assessment, and seeks to provide treatment options
and therapeutic support that take into account the unique issues and
problems that individuals living with attention and learning problems
encounter in their day to day lives.
Dr. Cragnolino adopts various treatment options and styles to best accommodate
the needs of her clients.
Adults
- Work focusing on specific areas of functioning or current problems
at work, school, and/or home.
- Teaching life management and improved organizational skills, reinforcing
positive coping strategies, and improving interactions with family
members, colleagues, and peers.
- Treatment may also address co-occurring problems with depression,
anxiety, low self-esteem, and relational conflicts.
- Neuropsychological and psychological evaluations for adults,
including projective testing, when appropriate.
Children and Adolescents
- Family-focused treatment to improve interactions
and problem-solving skills among family members
- Individual treatment for older children and adolescents focusing
on raising self-esteem and increasing self-understanding in order to
improve academic and interpersonal functioning.
- Behavior management skills for parents
- Educational advocacy and communication with schools and teachers to
insure appropriate accommodations and an understanding environment
for the young person.
- Neuropsychological and psychological evaluations for children
and adolescents, including projective testing when appropriate.
Professional Experience
Dr. Cragnolino has nine years of clinical experience treating a wide
variety of client issues in a varied treatment settings including inpatient
and outpatient treatment in hospitals, community health clinics, and private
practice. She has worked with individuals with attention deficit disorder,
learning disorders, cognitive impairments due to head injury, medical
problems, and dementia, anxiety disorders, depression and bipolar disorders,
post-traumatic stress disorder, personality disorders, substance abuse,
and stress-related problems including somatic complaints and chronic pain.
Dr. Cragnolino conducts individual, group, and family psychotherapy
using a cognitive-behavioral approach that includes an emphasis on behavioral
modification, stress management, cognitive restructuring, social skills
training, memory skills and organizational skills training, and improved
communication. She has training in psychodynamic psychotherapy and will
often incorporate this approach in more long-term treatments focusing
on self-esteem issues or relationships.
