Dr. Rossen holds a Ph.D. in School Psychology and provides a range of services to children, young adults, and their parents, including:
Assessment
Dr. Rossen specializes in the assessment of school-aged children and young adults in order to identify strengths and weaknesses related to cognitive processing, academic performance, executive functioning, inattention/distractibility, memory, and learning. His reports provide relevant and effective recommendations to improve functioning within the school setting based on current educational practices.
Dr. Rossen conducts evaluations on weeknights and weekends in order to accommodate parents and students.
Educational Advocacy
Dr. Rossen has extensive experience working in a variety of school settings, and is familiar with educational law and the implementation of classroom and school-wide support programs. He is available to guide parents in effective advocacy for their children in the school setting.
Parent counseling
He provides counseling to parents to assist them in implementing a variety of strategies at home with the goal of improving their children’s self-control and self-confidence and building more effective daily habits around homework, chores, and organization. He also works with parents to help strengthen family relationships between parent and child and between siblings.
Counseling for children and young adults
Dr. Rossen also provides counseling therapy for children and young adults to address social, emotional, and academic functioning. He uses a cognitive-behavioral approach to improve cognitions, assumptions, beliefs, and behaviors related to the specific concerns of each client.
Emotional intelligence - One of his strong areas of interest is social-emotional functioning. He has published several papers and presented nationally on issues related to emotional intelligence. In counseling, he works to improve the social-emotional functioning of each child or young adult by helping them learn to identify, manage, and regulate their emotions.
Crisis and trauma – Dr. Rossen has extensive experience in crisis and trauma management and has presented at state conferences on topics related to relevant counseling interventions.
Bullying intervention - Dr. Rossen has developed school-based interventions to address bullying and has implemented individual and group programs aimed at skill-building, anger-management, and victim assertiveness training. He has presented on these topics at several regional conferences.
