Training and professional experience Chicago School of Professional Psychology - Dr. Kara Goobic earned her Doctor of Psychology degree from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. The University of North Carolina School of Medicine - During her predoctoral internship, Dr. Goobic provided inpatient and outpatient pediatric consultations for at-risk children, individual psychotherapy to university students, and conducted family therapy with parents of at-risk children. The University of North Carolina School of Medicine - TEACCH Center - During this postdoctoral training, Dr. Goobic focused on social skills in children, counseling and therapy with children and young adults, and parent training. Kennedy Krieger Institute at the Johns Hopkins University - More recently, Dr. Goobic worked at the Kennedy Krieger Institute at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore where she conducted psychotherapy for children, adolescents, and parents and conducted multiple staff training seminars. St. John's Community Services, Washington, DC - In this position, Dr. Goobic conducted social skills groups, individual counseling, and consulted to classroom teachers in the DC Public School System. Personal Interests As a psychologist as well as an individual with Multiple Sclerosis myself, I have been invited to work as a patient advocate, helping other people with MS to better understand this disorder and how to manage it. I have given a number of public presentations, including:
Given that many women with ADHD suffer with fibromyalgia and related issues, I find that my personal experience with MS allows me to be more effective in helping others learn to cope with chronic illnesses.
