Melanie Patt-Corner, Professional Organizer

To contact Melanie Patt-Corner, please call 301-263-9482 or e-mail Melanie@dorsetwest.com.

I started my organizing business in January of 2004, although I have been organizing my family and friends for decades. I grew up in a family with ADD members, and have also raised two children who have ADD, and have learned over the years what works and what doesn’t work in terms of helping them get organized. I also bring my background as an editor to my work as an organizer. I see each room as a page, the clutter as a jumble of words waiting to be cut and pasted. My goal is a happy client in a room that is clear and concise, with lots of white space.

I believe that homes get cluttered because you don’t have a “home” for all of your possessions. I can help you decide which of your things you want to keep, which rooms they should live in, and where in each room they should be kept. I believe in using simple and individualized systems, common sense, a good sense of humor, and the proper containers for the job.

Each client is different, with different needs and learning styles. I will talk with you to determine your unique needs and then work with you to clear out clutter and create a home that is orderly and serene.

I work in blocks of two to three hours at a time. I don’t recommend longer periods of time as organizing can be very exhausting for the client, and you will need time between sessions to assimilate and move on to the next step.

I work in NW Washington, including Chevy Chase Circle and Friendship Heights; southern Montgomery County, including Bethesda, Silver Spring, Potomac, Kensington, and Glen Echo; and northern Fairfax county, including Arlington and McLean. I do not charge for travel time as long as you are within the areas listed above.

I am a member of National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO), Grass Roots Organization for Seniors (GROWS), and National Study Group on Chronic Disorganization (NSGCD). I have earned five NSGCD Level 1 certificates, including a Certificate of Study in Basic ADD Issues and a Certificate of Study in Basic Hoarding Issues. I have also earned a Level 2 CD Specialist certificate.
