Adolescent Therapy & Other Interventions

Adolescents

Individual psychotherapy - Neuro-cognitive psychotherapy that focuses on helping teens focus on their strengths, to improve self-esteem, to set and reach goals, and to develop skills for independent living that will prepare them for life after high school.

Help for executive functioning - Structured psychotherapy that focuses on developing executive functioning skills including organization, planning, time-management and study skills.

College Selection Guidance - Assistance with college selection, helping guide students and parents to make choices based on the student's needs and preferences.

Family therapy - Guidance for both parents and teens in developing better communication and problem-solving skills.

For Young Adults

Individual psychotherapy is structured to help young adults develop the confidence and skills necessary for successful independent living. Therapy often focuses on setting immediate and longer-term goals, decisions about education or career, and obtaining the structure and supports they will need to succeed.

Group therapy - Young adults often benefit greatly from an opportunity to interact with other young adults who are struggling with many of the same issues. Ask us about ongoing groups and waiting lists for forming groups.

Adolescent Testing

The Center offers psycho-educational and neuropsychological assessments of children, adolescents, and adults. An assessment typically takes place over several sessions including an initial diagnostic interview two testing sessions of 3-4 hours each, followed by a feedback interview to interpret test results and to make recommendations based on those results.

Our assessments include what we believe to be the best tests available in order to understand an individual's attention and learning. Psychological screening is a routine part of our assessment protocol. However, more in-depth psychological assessment, including projective testing, is not part of our standard assessment. When emotional/psychological issues are a focus of the evaluation, an additional fee will be charged for projective testing or other psychological testing, based on time spent to administer, score and interpret them.

Records can be mailed or faxed in advance so that the psychologist can have time to review them in advance of your initial appointment. Or, if you prefer, you may bring records to the initial appointment. Please bring copies of records, not originals, so that there will be no risk of damaging or losing original documents. Records that may be helpful to us include medical records, school records, and prior test reports.

Adolescents

An initial clinical interview (either with just parents or with parents and a child) is typically followed by a battery of psychological tests to assess learning, attention, and memory, as well as interpersonal and emotional issues.

School Admissions

For clients from pre-school to high school, we offer testing for school admissions for area independent schools.

Testing Batteries

Our standard diagnostic test batteries consist of cognitive and academic testing. The initial clinical interview assists us in evaluating whether additional tests should be administered to provide us with more information about specific concerns. We offer test batteries for each age group that may be supplemented, on a case by case basis, with other tests depending upon the particular concerns being addressed.

These batteries are for diagnostic testing, not for school admissions.  The school admissions batteries are much shorter.

Please find below a list of tests that we often use in our child and adolescent assessments, however, in individual cases, some of these tests may not be administered while others, not listed below, may be included depending upon the specific issues being evaluated.
